Bible Text: Mk. 12:28-34 |

Series:

And when Jesus saw that the scribe answered with understanding, he said to him, “You are not far from the Kingdom of God.”

Christ came to bring us the truth. In fact, He does not just speak the truth; He is truth Himself.

This truth illumines us in our understanding of the mysteries of God.  It leads us to a right understanding of the message of the gospel and the depth of God’s love.

The truth is very important because it brings us ultimately closer to the kingdom. And our gospel today implies two things:

First, “If our understanding of the gospel is getting farther away from the truth, then we could be in the great danger of going farther away from the kingdom as well.”

And so, let us try to examine ourselves how close are we to the truth? Are our consciences formed, and informed according to the truth? How do we align our heart and our mind to the teachings of Christ? We can do this by constantly exposing ourselves to the word of God in a prayerful reading of the scriptures. The word of God guides us to this end; while we listen to the Holy Mother Church who helps us understand and in whom Christ has entrusted the authority to teach us who are constantly seeking the truth.

Second, to be found closer to the kingdom is good, but never enough. God invites us to be part of the kingdom, to be “in” the kingdom; to be proactive workers of the gospel message. Hence, more than just a feeling or an intention, love is a commandment that compels us to care, to do some kindness, to act in view of the common good.

In this time of crisis, let us understand that all measures to prevent the spread of the virus are acts in view of the good of all. Let’s cooperate, and let this be, on our part, a great act of love for God and for our neighbors.
