Confirmation brings to completion the grace received through baptism. By this sacrament, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the church and are enriched by the strength of the Holy Spirit. This gift conforms believers more fully to Christ and strengthens them to bear witness to Christ for the building up of his body in faith and love.
Students in 7th and 8th grade are invited to be a part of The Matthias Project, our Confirmation Preparation. Beginning in 2024, Confirmation will be received in the fall of 9th grade at the parishes of St Elizabeth Ann Seton and Immaculate Conception.
Confirmation preparation is a 2-year process that involves classroom learning, retreats, and workshops as you learn about the Sacrament of Confirmation and living as a fully-initiated Catholic. The Confirmation team has worked together to build a program that will help foster the faith journey for each candidate seeking the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Classroom sessions for both 7th and 8th grade will be offered approximately every other Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Administration building. The schedule is not finalized yet, but we welcome all participants to an Opening Mass on Tuesday September 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church.
Registration for Confirmation Preparation is now open. Please use this link below to register your 7th or 8th grader.
We ask that you fill out a form for each child that you register. If your child attends a Catholic school, their Sacramental preparation is done in the parish. They will not have to attend all classes, but will need to attend the retreats and workshops, so please register your children regardless of where they attend school.
We look forward to working with you throughout this exciting process. Any questions about the Matthias Project, please contact Susan Cheplic at skcheplic@dioceseofgreensburg.org.
